Dixie Newsletter – August 2016

Meeting Highlights:


The club met on Thursday, August 4, at Western Sizzlin’. President, David Huett welcomed 33 members and 3 guests. Richard Galbraith became our newest member.
Now for some very good news. Velta Shipps shared information that after four years, she is in remission of multiple myeloma! Praise the Lord! Jim and Velta also thanked the club members for their support.


Bill Newsam is continuing to gather more information about the Club’s invitation to join the Benton Chamber of Commerce.


Wayne Davis thanked the Club for coming out to the Fish Fry out Salem on Steelbridge Rd. The outing was well attended by approximately 30 people. Five old cars were driven. There will be one more of these fish fries; August and September on the last Saturday of the month.


Velta Ships has secured the Gene Moss bldg. for the club Christmas party to be held on December 1. Festivities will begin at 6:00 p.m. She also presented the idea of hiring a band for the party. They have given a discounted rate of $200 for one hour of music. The schedule will be: 6:00-7:00 dinner, 7:00-8:00 the band will play. The menu will be Turkey and Ham. Velta is taking volunteers for sides and desserts.


Bill McMahan made a motion to hire the Penn Family Band for the Christmas Party at the $200 rate. Motion was seconded and the vote carried. Chris Beason made a motion that we do not play Dirty Santa this year. Cheryl Overton seconded the motion. After discussion, we had 16 votes for no Dirty Santa to 6 votes to play. Vote carried to not have Dirty Santa this year.


The August outing will be hosted by the Beasons. We will travel to Stubby’s BBQ in Hot Springs on August 20. We will leave Chicken Express parking lot at 1:30 p.m.


Cheryl Overton reported on the upcoming Car Show. We will sign up “parkers” at the September meeting. Lisa Ramsey’s group from church will handle concessions. David Huett is in charge of the banners. Todd Overton is handling registration. Cheryl is handling door prizes and silent auctions. The Mashburn team will do the judging. We are in need of Silent Auction items and Door Prizes.


Food Bank collected $64. Our one year to date total for the Food Bank is $354.
