Meeting Highlights:


The Dixie Car Club met on Thursday, September 1 at Western Sizzlin’. President, David Huett opened the meeting welcoming 26 members.


Bill Newsam reported that there would be no strings attached to join the Benton Chamber of Commerce. The Club felt this would be a good way to get our name out to new members of the Community. He made a motion to join the Chamber. Motion carried. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony that will, hopefully, occur after the October 1 Car Show. There will be several members present for photo opportunities.


President David Huett spoke to the club about the recent passing of Charter Member Barbara Tillery. He read a thank you note from her nieces for the flower arrangement the Club provided at her service.


Please keep the following in your prayers: Roger Montgomery in yours prayers. He has had a hip replacement September 6. Robert and Julie Vest as his mother is not doing well. And David Huetts mother-in-law who taken to the hospital on Friday, Sept. 9.


The August outing at Stuby’s BBQ in Hot Springs was hosted by Jeff and Chris Beason. It was attended by 14 Club Members. Due to the heavy downpours, no old cars were driven.


Wayne Davis reminded members that the final fish fry for this year the Masionic Lodge will Saturday, September 24. The fish fry will start up again in April and run through September of 2017.


The September outing will be sponsored by Kenneth Hunter. We will go to Little Fir Landing on Lake Ouachita on Saturday, September 17. All wanting to travel together will meet at 9:00 a.m. at Bruno’s Italian Restaurant (formerly Ed & Kays) in Benton. It is approximately a 2 hr. drive toward Mt. Ida. Lunch will be provided along with party barge rides. They will have paddle boats for kids. Each must provide their own life jackets. For more information, call Kenneth at 501-840-1017.


Bill Newsam announced another car show being held September 17 to benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation. The show is located at Supreme Fixture Company, 11900 Vimey Ridge Rd., LR. Call 501-455-2552 for more information.


Shane Shelton presented information for Geyer Springs First Baptist Church “Old Guys, Old Cars and Catfish” Show & Shine on Tuesday, September 20 beginning at 5:30. Food will be served at 6:00. Non church members eat free. This is for “guys only”. There will be a $100 prize for the nicest car.


We will have a 2nd Club Meeting this month on September 29 at Western Sizzlin’ to tie up loose ends for the Show on October 1. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. for dinner and meeting at 7:00 p.m.


We will need a volunteer to collect for the 50/50 drawing. We will have a Silent Auction. We still need Door Prizes. Shane also needs more Volunteers for parking. If interested, please contact Shane at 501-650-6288.
